I double-majored in English and Psychology, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts the University of Cape Town in 1992. After moving to Canada in 1993 I received an Honours' certificate in English Literature at the University of Saskatchewan, which awarded me a scholarship and named me twice to the Dean's List.

Grad school came next, at the University of Western Ontario. I received a Masters in Literature in 1996 and a Masters in Journalism in 1997. Finally, I entered the workforce.

At Western I had the opportunity to teach Literature to undergraduate students and loved it. I continued teaching at community centers in San Antonio, Texas and Richmond, BC.

Steven Spielberg gave me an early introduction to Interviewing Techniques when I joined his Visual History Foundation as a student, and was privileged to conduct interviews of Holocaust Survivors in the US and Canada. A stint in television journalism at the South African Broadcasting Corporation, where I did my journalism internship, convinced me that Print Journalism was the best place for my skills. I've not looked back since.
